Can anyone tell me if Lt. Dickinson flew a SBD-2 or SBD-3 at Pearl Harbor? What interior colors would the -2's or -3's have? And did anyone ever figure out whatever happened to the man. Last combat report was Midway. After that he dropped off the radar and no one ever knew what happened to him. He wrote a book in 1942 so Im assuming he went back to the states. Perhaps as a instructor or maybe just retired from service all together?
Thx, Nate

well lt c.e. dickinson with radio man rm1c miller flew sbd-2 number 6-s-4. when it was shot down near ewa lt dickinson got out but radioman miller was killed.
according to several sites and from what ref pics i have the sbd-2 had interior green for the cockpit.
not finding much on after midway for him though. it seems others have had the same issues. finding several threads on different forums with no additional information.

Dickinson wrote THE FLYING GUNS (1942), which I recall reading once.
I don't think he survived the war. Rich Leonard would probably know what happened to him.

Thanks all for the help! Lt. Dickinson is one of many interesting stories from that day. It is interesting to me how many pilots and crews wanted to get into the air to find the Japanese fleet. Some with orders, some just doing it because it was their duty. Everyone wanted to prevent another attack. Thankfully a third wave never came to be but if it had we would have been ready and the Japanese would have lost more then 29 aircraft.
